  • Ceylon Cinnamon

  • Chinese Cinnamon

Out of these two, Ceylon Cinnamon is considered to be safe for dogs as it contains the lower amount of coumarin which can be found in a variety of plants. Now this, coumarin may pose to be a threat if given in large amount. Again the point is to feed cinnamon to them in the small amount. This can be a healthy practice. Otherwise excessive cinnamon can cause diarrhea or make them puke. This indicates you may or may not give them cinnamon. It is not an absolute necessity, and you can skip this ingredient if you want.

If you are still thinking about feeding your dog cinnamon then, consider giving them a milder amount. This could be taken as an experiment, and if your dog does not show signs of any irregular behavior, then you can feed them cinnamon from time to time. Just stick to this table for good:

If your dog is over 100 pounds then feed them 1 teaspoon to 2 tablespoons

If it is in between 50 to 100 pounds then 1 or may be 2 teaspoon

If it weighs 20 to 50 pounds then ¼ to 1 teaspoon would be sufficient

Dogs weighing 10 to 20 pounds can be fed with ¼ teaspoon

For smaller dogs that weigh something around 1to10 pounds a pinch or a maximum of 1/8 teaspoon would be enough

What matters most for pet parents is that they should not get into the habit of feeding table scraps to their pets. This hold true for all pet owners, be it a cat or a dog, you should not feed them leftovers or rather anything other than their food to be on the safe side. If you want to feed them some variety, then go for the milder version of people food. Hope this post answers all your queries on Is Cinnamon bad for dogs.
